Paul Vreeswijk Arrives

Paul Vreeswijk in his first week at DARK

Paul Vreeswijk arrived 16 July.

He is here on a Marie Curie fellowship.

Currently located in room 115.

Background: ESO postdoc in Chile 2005-2006 at the Universidad de Chile in Santiago and before that as an ESO fellow duty station at Paranal 2002-2005. He took his PhD 1998-2002 at the Astronomical Institute "Anton Pannekoek" at the University of Amsterdam under Jan van Paradijs and Ed van den Heuvel.

Paul works primarily on Gamma-Ray Bursts using optical data and is currently leading the drive to use UVES at VLT to observe the early phases of GRB afterglows. He has already been part of many of the most exciting developments in GRB science over the past decade, including the first GRB-supernova association GRB980425/SN1998bw (with Titus Galama).

All I know about is hobbies are that he likes sailing and is quite a good footballer. He is currently located in room 115 while Christina Thöne is away. Oh, and he's Dutch.
